I know lots of people are huge fans of the Suzanne Collins series, The Hunger Games. I am a little behind and alas, I have read only the first so far. Hopefully I will be getting book two from the library shortly. Anyhow, when Trevor and I were recently at the library we were looking at the DVDs and he found the 80s Schwarzenegger film, The Running Man, complete with an I'll be back quote. I had never even heard of it. It has a flavor similar to The Hunger Games, and seems like possibly some inspiration for the series.

I haven't seen that movie, but The Hunger Games series is fabulous! You have to let us know when you get to read Mockingjay! I just finished it myself.
ReplyDeleteI just finished the first book in the series and am half way through the second book. They are so good. I haven't seen The Running Man but there is a Japanese movie called Battle Royal that has a similar concept. It's of course rated R but I'm pretty sure if the Hunger Games was turned into a film it too would be R.

ReplyDeleteThat is exactly where I am. I just got book two from the library yesterday and I am 1/2 way through it already. I kind of think of Hunger Games as a mesh of 1984 and Lord of the Flies. However, I don't know if I'd want to see Hunger Games on screen. I think it would gross me out.
I've heard rumors about a Hunger Games movie several times in the last year... It might actually be happening! There's even a listing for it on imdb, but you can only see it if you have imdbPro. Which I do not.
